Beach Front

Somewhere along the crossroads of life, we found each other nine years ago, in 2016, as members of our university’s student publishing club. In January 2017, after months of getting to know each other, Koy finally confessed his feelings and asked me to date him. Over the next eight years of our relationship, we faced many challenges, but it was never a lonely journey.

Nurtured by time rather than circumstance, our unwavering commitment to each other, our shared dreams, and the deep connection we've built have shaped us into true companions for life. We are beyond grateful that, along the way, we've met so many special people who have played a part in our journey- each one adding their own unique touch.

THE SANTAN FLOWER

We weren’t even dating yet when Koy made a simple but heartfelt gesture- he crafted a bracelet out of (santan) flowers for me to wear from our team building trip. It was his quiet way of showing affection with his coy personality.

Years later, that small gesture blossomed into something lasting. One Christmas, he gave me a charm bracelet, delicately shaped like (santan) flowers. I translated it to a symbol of how his love for me had grown and deepened over time; and now it has become a significant icon to our love arc.

LONG DISTANCE

Most people know that we recently braved the challenges of a long-distance relationship when I pursued my master’s degree in Melbourne. But even before that, distance was already part of our story- as I lived in Quezon City, while Koy was based in Laguna, about two hours apart.

Then came the pandemic in 2020, further adding to the distance. Then I moved to Melbourne in 2023- only meeting up twice a year (either I come home to the Philippines or he visits me in Australia). Yet, through nightly video calls, constant attention, and uncomplicated loyalty, our genuine love remained steady. For years, we nurtured our connection from afar by holding tightly to our dreams and the quiet promise of a future together.

THE PROPOSAL

On December 12, 2024, Koy made the ultimate promise. What I didn’t know was that Koy had been preparing for this day since December 2023 (even told some of my friends about it). It took him an entire year of careful planning to create this life-altering moment.

In Melbourne’s beautiful Fitzroy Gardens, I set up a lovely picnic, unaware of the surprise waiting- which is Koy suddenly dropping to one knee. With trembling hands and an overwhelmed heart, I said “Yes, of course!”; while a photographer jumped out of the bushes capturing the raw moment. I was honestly still in disbelief, staring at the ring on my left hand. We called our closest family and friends and went straight to one of my favorite wine spot in the city- sipping pinot as we both took it all in.
